Lonely Suggestions box

Here I’m fixed to the wall.
In the canteen, in the staff area.
They pass by, but no one cares at all.
Why? Bring your wisdom. Speak to me.
Spin your thoughts into the paper.
Put it in, I want to know.

Again the Japanese had long nailed this problem. How did they do it? By picking up top 10 suggestions every month and rewarding those employees who dropped it. We are still stuck with this problem. Here are few solutions.

One way is to pick top 5 suggestions and put it on the notice board, congratulating those who wrote it. Something similar was done by a local TV program a few years ago. When the program reaches near the end, the presenter read out few suggestions sent by the viewers. They called it ‘beluntherin ge hiyaalu’ (viewers’ suggestions)

Another way is to give a cloud 9 chocolate for each top 10 suggestions.

Also the department head could read the top 10 suggestions from the department during the briefing once every month. “Moving to suggestions, ahm, we picked top 10, ahm, all the suggestions were great, ahm,……thank you. The 10th from the top 10 suggestion is from ahm…..”

Most department heads spend their days fire fighting in panic mode. They don’t have any time to spare for improving things. But once this suggestions method is implemented they are forced to improve 10 things that bother the staffs each month, that’s a lot of improvement from someone who otherwise would spend his day dealing only with operational activities.
